RTO/ISO

The Independent System Operators (ISO) coordinate the movement of wholesale electricity across an individual state or region.  The ISO acts as a neutral, independent party ensuring operation of the electric grid and in some regions oversees and regulates wholesale power market transactions.  ISOs are created at the direction or recommendation of the Federal Energy Regulatory Commission (FERC).
